'The father of William G. PICKENS was Abram (or Abraham) PICKENS andhis mother was Elizabeth. When they moved from Abbeville SC to Maury Co.,TN in 1806, the family also included several girls; the census of 1790shows for Abraham PICKENS, one daughter, and the census of 1800 showsfive daughters. Abram PICKENS died in Maury County, Tenn., in February1815; to care for his widow, Elizabeth, the Court, on Wednesday, Feb. 22,1815, appointed three men to apportion one year's provisions out of thepersonal estate of the deceased. (Will Book A VI Page 235). These threemade a report to the Court dated March 14, 1815, entered in Minutes 2A,1813-1816, on May 17, 1815. The reports of the administrator of theestate of Abram PICKENS, Wm. NEILL, including the inventory of theestate, was taken Feb. 22, 1815, and the list of property sold on March14, 1815, were not entered in the Court's records until April 23, 1824(Volume C). At the time of Abram's death there were two minor sons, JohnO. PICKENS and Thomas PICKENS, who are mentioned in reports filed withthe Court on Feb. 15, 1827 (Wills D, Vol. 1, 1826-29, page 247). Otherheirs and devisees, names in Jan. 1827 (N457) are Margaret HENDERSON,Jane SCOTT, Elizabeth MCCALL, Hannah PICKENS, and Wm. C. PICKENS. Thecensus of 1820 gave Elizabeth as head of the family, with the followingchildren in the home: 1 male under 16; 1 male between 16 and 18; one malebetween 16 and 26; two females between 16 and 26.
We have been unsuccessful in efforts to ascertain the names of theparents of Abram PICKENS, although my brother-in-law searched in theAbbeville county records [SC] and I searched, in 1947, with the aid ofMr. A. S. SALLEY, in Columbia SC, and, at another time, in Charleston.Land in his name was obtained by grant and we have not found names of hisconnections.
It appears from the history of this family that there might be a veryclose relationship between them and a John PICKENS and the SCOTTs ofVirginia.

Jane SCOTT,daughter of Samuel SCOTT...]' ".MAURY COUNTY TENNESSEE DEED ABSTRACTS, BOOKS A, B, & C; ; ; p. 82;photocopy of page in possession of Terry McLean, Anaheim Ca, found atWilliamson County Tennessee public library, genealogy dept, Franklin, TN,1994.
